Charles Willette, Jr. was born in 1945 in Conroe, Texas. He graduated from Texas A&M University at Kingsville (formerly Texas A&I) in 1971, and became licensed to practice in Texas after graduation from St. Mary’s University School of Law in 1974. He was an Assistant District Attorney in Bexar County for one year and then moved to the Rio Grande Valley where he practiced criminal law for another year. In 1976, he was appointed the first full time City Attorney for the City of Brownsville and held that position for three years, after which he went into private practice. In 1979 he was appointed Special Prosecutor by all of the Cameron County District Judges to investigate the then Chief Felony Prosecutor for Aggravated Perjury. In 1981, he was asked to join the Brownsville office of Royston, Rayzor, Vickery & Williams, which had offices in Houston, Galveston, Corpus Christi and Brownsville. He became a partner in that firm and stayed with them until 1987, when he decided to start his own firm. Mr. Willette is the managing partner of Willette & Guerra, L.L.P., with offices in Cameron and Hidalgo County. He was selected as a Texas Super Lawyer in 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, and 2010. Charles, an (AV) rated attorney, is licensed to practice before the United States Supreme Court; United States Court of Appeals, Fifth Circuit; United States District Court, Southern and Western Districts of Texas, as well as all state courts in the State of Texas. He is a member of the Texas Association of Defense Counsel and The Defense Research Institute, Inc. He served as a Commissioner and Chairman on the Brownsville Civil Service Commission for approximately eight years and served as a Director on the Cameron County Housing Finance Corporation, both of which were appointed positions. He is also a Fellow in the Litigation Counsel of America. He is a Fellow in the Texas Bar Foundation and served on the 1993 Merit Selection Committee which was charged with the responsibility of selecting a new federal magistrate for the Southern District of Texas. He served two terms as a member of the 12B Grievance Committee and was appointed as Chairman of the 12B-3 Grievance Committee Panel during his last term. Charles has been a speaker at numerous State Bar of Texas seminars and was the Program Director for the 1996 Suing and Defending Governmental Entities seminar.
